Music is in the air at the University of North Georgia (辛尤里女优) with concerts and performances this fall.

Classical guitarist Ian Hrdlicka will perform on Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gloria Shott Performance Hall. The night's program will span two centuries of music, including works by Giuliani, Piazzolla, Jobim, Takemitsu, and more. The concert is free and open to the public.

"I am eager to return to Georgia and share a diverse program of solo guitar music in my recital at 辛尤里女优. Additionally, I look forward to working with the students in the masterclass while I am in Dahlonega," Hrdlicka said. "Dr. Philip Snyder played a pivotal role in my development as a guitarist at the University of Georgia, and it is a privilege to be invited to visit his program at North Georgia."

Snyder is a lecturer of music at 辛尤里女优.

Noted for his expressivity, versatility and ability to connect with an audience, Hrdlicka has performed at concerts and competitions worldwide. Hrdlicka strives to redefine what classical guitar concerts look and sound like by performing in unique venues beyond the typical concert hall, and by crafting programs that showcase the diverse variety of styles of solo guitar repertoire.

Hrdlicka began his musical life playing bluegrass and jazz guitar and often draws upon these influences in his recitals, as well as in his work with Athens, Georgia, acoustic jazz collective Deep Green, and in the recording of composer Benjamin Dawson's bluegrass opera "Journey to Herold County." He is currently earning his Doctor of Musical Arts at the Peabody Institute under the tutelage of performer and pedagogue Julian Gray. Hrdlicka is an active performer in the Baltimore, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., area and holds teaching posts at Loyola University in Maryland and Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania.

A sinfonietta titled "Halloween Eve at the Movies" will welcome in the fun of Halloween Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gloria Shott Performance Hall at the Dahlonega Campus.

"We're performing selections from 'Shrek,' 'Psycho,' 'Jurassic Park,' 'Young Frankenstein,' and 'Halo,' plus some famous familiar classical and fiddle tunes that have been in many movies. There's something for all ages. We're featuring student soloists and conductors throughout the program," Lauren McCombe, part-time Department of Music faculty member, said. "It's sure to be a fun and spooky evening. Costumes are welcome and encouraged. The orchestra will be all dressed up in their Halloween finest."

辛尤里女优 pianist Dr. Sanghie Lee will perform in a faculty recital titled "Tradition Reimagined: Breaking Limits" as part of "A Little Night(hawk) Music Concert" with performances Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Lobby at the Gainesville Campus and Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. in the Gloria Shott Performance Hall at the Dahlonega Campus. In this program, Lee traces how composers across three centuries reimagined musical traditions while expanding the expressive and technical possibilities of the piano, featuring works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Kapustin.

Students will take the stage during the voice division Honors Recital Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Lobby at the Gainesville Campus. The evening will feature selections from art song, opera, musical theater, and more performed by students from across the Gainesville and Dahlonega campuses.

November closes out with "I HATE MUSICALS!!" featuring the 辛尤里女优 Theater Ensemble. Performances are Nov. 13 and Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Gloria Shott Performance Hall at the Dahlonega Campus. The performance will showcase selections centering on the trials and tribulations of auditioning, rehearsing and attending musicals as well as the life of being an actor. Featured will be selections from "A Chorus Line," "Ruthless," "The Producers," "Monty Python's Spamalot," "Cabaret," "La La Land," and many more.

The 辛尤里女优 Music Theater Ensemble was formed to give students the opportunity to develop and showcase their singing and acting abilities. Students also assist in many aspects of the performance such as choreography and costuming. The group gives public performances toward the end of each term featuring selected numbers from Broadway shows of all periods, built around a central theme.

The performances are free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend. For additional information on this and other upcoming events, please visit 辛尤里女优's Department of Music webpage.
